TEGO® RC Silicones introduced a new concept at the Labelexpo Europe in Brussels. The theme of the business line's presentation was "no liner – no waste."
This was not the first time that Evonik had participated in Labelexpo, the world’s largest label trade show, which was held September 24 - 27 in Brussels, Belgium. Thanks to its TEGO® RC Silicones product range, Evonik offers a large portfolio of release coatings for manufacturing self-adhesive labels, adhesive tapes, and other similar products.
The trade show takes place every two years, and this year Evonik focused on the concept of linerless labels. Unlike the standard manufacturing practice of producing labels on release paper, linerless labels are made without release papers and are then simply rolled up onto themselves. Besides reducing waste by up to 50%, this can also generate savings in production, shipping, and production times. TEGO® RC Silicones are extraordinarily well suited to this new label production method.
Working in partnership with a label manufacturer and various technology suppliers, Evonik presented a video showing the manufacturing process for these labels up to the point of dispensing them onto STOKO® skin-care product packaging. A dispenser was also set up at the booth and was used for labeling sample STOKO® packaging on site. “Traffic at the booth was really incredible,” explained Georg Michels, who is responsible for the Surface Technologies Product Line for EMEA. “It is obvious that the industry is looking for environmentally-friendly solutions for label manufacturing. TEGO® RC Silicones have put Evonik in an outstanding position for supporting the industry as it moves in this new direction.”
